Outstanding Practice

Are you a setting aiming for outstanding? Or maybe a setting that is already outstanding but want to make sure you remain at the top of your game then this full day session is for you. Looking in detail at Ofsted expectations we will unpick the inspection hand book, helping you to understand and identify outstanding practice and interactions. We will look at the importance of continual evaluation and improvements and ensuring a whole staff team approach.


This training is suitable for Managers, Deputies or Room leaders. Or alternatively can be deliverd to a whole setting group. The training can be adapted to a half day session for childminders.

Cohort tracking

Would you like to be more confident in tracking the progress of children and using data to help improve outcomes for children? Then this course for you. Either a full or half day session this training covers; how to collect your data and ensuring its accuracy, how to interpreted, integrate and use your data to improve outcomes for children and staff, as well as linking this to Ofsted expectations. Delegates attending full day training will receive IT support to start data collection and tracking.

Supporting children's learning

Developing  your team

Performance management is key to building a high quality team, but how confident are you in tackling under performance? How do your reward and acknowledge outstanding performance. This half day training will look at practical and time efficient ways to develop the quality of your staff  team . It will help you to understand and make the most of their strengths and weaknesses.  From getting it right from the start with robust induction, through to supporting staff development, this training will give you the skills and tools to develop your team.


This training is suitable for managers/Deputies of Nursery and Pre-school, or childminders who work with assistants.

Superhero play 

Do you have a setting full of Batmen, Supermen and Power Rangers. Do you worry about children rushing around in physical, sometimes seemingly aggressive play? Do you worry about gun play? Then this session is for you. In this half day training we will understand what we mean by superhero play and if you should restrict it. Understand why certain children are drawn to it and how it can be harnessed to benefit their learning and development. As well as looking at overcoming barriers to allowing it in your setting. 


This course is suitable for all childcare practitioners.

Understanding boys

We know that boys tend to do less well at all stages of their education – from early years through to GCSE. This session looks at some of the reasons why this might be and how we can help our boys in the Early Years to do just as well as our girls. Looking at brain development, how boys like to learn and exploring the areas they struggle in, by the end of this half day session you will be better placed to meet the needs for the boys in your setting.

Attachment Theory – Why we have ‘key persons’

Would you like to know more about the theory behind key person? Would you like to be able to better emotionally support the children that you care for? This half day training will explore the ideas of Bowlby, help you understand why children maybe behaving in certain ways, help you understand how better to support children during periods of transition and ultimately become a better key person to the children in your care.


This course is suitable for all childcare practitioners.

Characteristics of effective learning 

In this full day course you will get  to grips with the three ‘Characteristics of Effective Learning’ - Engagement, Motivation, and Thinking – the building blocks for learning and central to planning. During the training we will unpick how children learn and how you can use the CoEL to motivate and support them, as well as Ofsted expectations for the CoEL and how to embed them into your practice.


This training suitable for all practitioners, but particularly those with a lead on developing and monitoring the learning environment. 

Brain development and how children learn.


Would you like to understand how children learn and the effects of adult interactions on brain development? In this half day training we will look at the amazing potential of young children, explore schematic learning, and understand the importance of the environment provided and the adults within it.
